133rd Coming Home

While 3618 US Soldiers have died in Iraq, there is very good news for the families of the men and women of the 1st Battalion, 133rd Infantry. They are coming home to Iowa after sixteen months in Iraq. The 133rd lost two members, Iowa City's Spc. Kampha Sourivong and Staff Sgt. Scott Nisely of Marshalltown.

From the P-C

Originally slated to return in April, the 133rd, based in northeast Iowa and containing soldiers from all over the state, including about 25 from Iowa City and Johnson County, had its tour extended in January.

"If you look at the entire time, it's fairly remarkable," said Lt. Col. Greg Hapgood, spokesman for the Iowa National Guard. "I think if you look at this ... one of the longest serving National Guard units on active duty in the global war on terror. These folks have really distinguished themselves."

Soldiers, Welcome Home!
