Iowa City Council Field to Grow

It looks like the field for Iowa City's council at-large race is going to increase by at least one name--former Longfellow Neighborhood leader, Friend of Historic Preservation and current Vice-chair of the Board of Adjustments, Michael Wright is going to put his hat in the ring for an at-large city council seat. Wright, a librarian at the University of Iowa A formal announcement is forth coming. Remember you heard it here first.

I no nothing about him, but we urgently need some progressive candidates for city council. In my thirty years in Iowa City, I have never seen a more unanimously right wing city council. The Reaganite trickle down TIF program diverts public money to wealthy investors without a word of protest. The Iowa City police department is accelerating its harvesting of young people for marijuana and alcohol offenses, making this community a dangerous one for young people. Not a peep of protest from the city council, and certainly not from mayor Ross Wilburn, a strong supporter of "knock and talk" police tactics, garbage searches, and the use of dogs to sniff out drug offenders. Now we have majority support for a major regressive tax increase.
