Ashcroft: "Doesn't Matter, Because I'm Not the Attorney General"

Former US Deputy Attorney General James Comey discusses the circumstances surrounding the rush to reauthorize the domestic spying program, including then-White House counsel Alberto Gonzales and White House Chief of Staff Andrew Card's late-night visit to John Ashcroft's hospital bedside for his okay--even though he had turned over temporary control of the department to Deputy AG Comey.

The next day, Comey intended to resign due to the domesticc spying program being reauthorized without certifying its legality from the AG's office. More from Truthout
