Gunman Shoots Gunman

From the The Chronicle of Higher Education

A University of Idaho student grabbed his pistol and ran outside to see if anyone needed help when he heard shooting near his apartment on Saturday, but he ended up getting shot three times himself.

The police in Moscow, Idaho, say that the 20-year-old student, Pete Husmann, was shot in the back, neck, and thigh with a semiautomatic assault rifle, but he is expected to recover. He was among six people shot on Saturday by Jason Hamilton, three of whom were killed, according to the Associated Press. The dead included a police officer, a church sexton, and Mr. Hamilton’s wife. Mr. Hamilton eventually killed himself.

After the shootings at Virginia Tech last month, some bloggers argued that the gunman there could have been stopped if students and faculty members routinely came armed to the university’s campus. Whether they would have had more success against a determined killer than did Mr. Husmann, a hunting enthusiast, remains open to speculation.
