Poverty on the Rise in Iowa

More than 308,000 Iowans were living in poverty in 2005, up about 30 percent from five years earlier, according to new estimates released in January 2008 by the U.S. Census Bureau.

Johnson County saw the second largest percentage increases of poor populations in Iowa during the first five years of the decade. Story County led all counties with an 114% growth in persons living in poverty from 2000 to 2005.
