Going from Native Son to "Nevada's Sun"?

While he is running a distant third in South Carolina, a new poll out in Nevada today by the Reno Gazette-Journal, shows John Edwards locked in a much tighter race in that state than in South Carolina. Accounting for the margin of error of 4.5 percent, the poll shows that race is a dead heat, with Barack Obama with 32 percent, Hillary Clinton at 30 percent, and Edwards at 27 percent.

MSNBC reports that Edwards has 75 new staffers in Nevada brought in from Iowa.

"What I know is that we're very well-organized," Edwards told reporters covering his town hall here in South Carolina. "We've got people there who know what they're doing. They moved there from Iowa, and I think most importantly my message of standing up for the middle class against entrenched moneyed interests and fighting for the middle class is one that'll work."

Edwards' strong anti-corporate, pro-worker populist message has made him the preferred candidate for many labor unions and therefore may help him score an upset in a state that was thought to be Hillary Clinton's last month.
