Iowa 186th Mobilizing 130 Troops for Second Iraq Tour

The Iowa National Guard is mobilizing 130 soldiers from the 186th Military Police Company for the unit’s second tour of duty in Iraq. Military officials say a community send-off for the unit will be held at 2 p.m. Nov. 10 at the Ankeny High School gym. The company, based at Camp Dodge in Johnston, is expected to be on duty for at least a year. The soldiers will be sent to Fort Dix, N.J., for additional training before going to Iraq. The unit was mobilized in 2003-2004 for the initial phase of Operation Iraqi Freedom. The company split its duties between guarding enemy prisoners of war and escorting convoys around the embattled country.
