Let's See What the President Does With This One

Congressman Dave Loebsack voted for H.R. 3162 (Not to be mistaken for the 2001 version which was oddly called the USA PATRIOT Act), the Children’s Health and Medicare Protection Act of 2007 (CHAMP Act). This bill reauthorizes the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP), which in Iowa is Healthy and Well Kids in Iowa (HAWK-I) program, that is set to expire on September 30, 2007, and includes several provisions to protect and improve Medicare.

“In our Country there is a moral obligation to protect and nurture our children and provide them with every opportunity to succeed,” said Congressman Loebsack. “With passage of this critical legislation, we are beginning to fulfill this promise by ensuring children across Iowa and all of America receive regular checkups, preventive care, and treatment of illnesses.”

The Bill must be signed into law by the President and, if vetoed, must be over-ridenn by a 2/3 majority.
